A Matt update

enjoying tummy time

i can see you and trying to suck his fingers

resting like his daddy hand behind his head

It has been 3 weeks today that our little son was born, boy has that time flown by which is good hopefully that means he will be home soon. To be honest the whole pregnancy flew by one minute it felt like i was 12 weeks and going into hospital for my bed rest and stitch and every day crossing off my calender and the next minute i am having this baby at 26 weeks 6days.

So far everything is going ok on this roller coast ride, luckily not many bad days or too many setbacks. The main problem we have is a pda duct which is very common for preemies and is the main problem that we are having and immature lungs which is also common. It means he has been changing ventilators to help him breathe easier he progress to what i call the puff vent. and when he cant cope as well he goes back to the vibrating vent which the call the high frequency. To me the vibrating vent is a step backwards but its gentler to them and then he has to progress back to the puff vent and hopefully to the cpap machine then no machine at all. In the short term my goal is to have Matt progress to the cpap machine.

Matt started on the puff vent then when he had blood in his lungs with the pda duct he went on the vibrating vent and in the 3 weeks since birth he has been on and off between the two. Today he went back onto the vibrating vent which is hard to see cos it is one small step back again but they think he will back on the other one next week. It doesn't help that his pda is playing up and he is on his second round of meds to close it. It effects him and his stats go up and down. I don't remember the technical terms for it but i think it effects the amount of oxygen in his blood that he is getting??? Darryl is the best to describe it but he is at home at the moment last day of work tomorrow which is good.

Overall Matt is doing good and his little character is starting to emerge.

* he likes tummy time, doesn't like being on his back now

*he opens his eyes a lot and responds to my voice

*he is a wriggle worm always moving around and setting off his machines i feel like he is the nosiest baby in bay 8, the alarms go off when he moves his tube or if his stats go up or down i feel like i am always looking at his numbers and praising him when his numbers are good and coaxing him to get his numbers up when they are low. Luckily i like numbers :)

*When he last got weighed which was last Saturday he weighed 879g which is good he is putting on weight and not long now until he reaches the 1kg club

*he doesn't like to be touched just watch those numbers go down, i tell him he better get over this temper tantrum cos when he gets home he wont be able to get away with it. Who am i kiddin he all ready has me wrapped around his little finger.

*he has already outgrown his vent tube and he had another one put in yesterday

*he likes to suck things if he cant get his fingers in his mouth he sucks the tube

*he likes to sleep with his hand behind his head just like his daddy

  1. Wow... it is so amazing reading this.. you may as well be telling Nico's story, except he only went off HFO once, didn't cope so stayed on HFO until CPAP
