Im running behind where has the time gone

I am so far behind on updating Matt's progress. He was weighed again on 19th February and is due to be weighed again soon. He now weighs 1394g but the nurses think when he gets weighed very soon he will be over 1500g. He is getting soo big to us but still small to every one else that has normal sized babies. Matt will be 6 weeks tomorrow the time is going fast which is good. I have been trying to upload pics but sometimes blogger plays up so i will try again. We have some nice photos with his eyes open and in one particular photo he looks so cheeky like he is smiling we happen to be over there late at night and he was wide awake so it was nice. Poor baby still has an infection and hopefully they are trying to wean him off the ventilators when his lungs clear up. He was very naughty yesterday he had a new tube inserted to hopefully help him get better cos the other one had a lot of gunk in it and when they were putting it in his heart went really low and they had to do cardiac massage on him but he came back bright eyed which was good but the dr said there could be some side effects like problems with his kidneys etc but he is peeing fine which is good they are just keeping an eye on him. Im finding he is awake and alert more now so the camera comes out so often, he is by sure the most photographed baby in his room if not the whole newborn area. He also got his photo taken yesterday by a real photographer they were getting shots of nurses in action for world nurse day in May so Matt had his taken with his nurse but hopefully we will be out of the hospital by then so we aren't in the hospital then.

Our little boy is putting on weight !!!!

Matt got weighed today and WOW has he put on weight we were hoping that he would be over a kilo to finally get into the kilo club, so when we came back from Melbourne today the first thing our nurse said to us we were right and he is into the kilo club but we were shocked as to his final weight which is 1.189kilo so he is nearly 1.2kilo. Our little boy is looking so healthy and starting to get little folds it is hard to imagine that he has nearly put on 500grams in just less then 4 weeks our little boy was 704g and is now 1189g. In the last week we could see the difference. Picture to follow ......

First cuddle for mum !!!!!

We went to visit Matt on Monday and luckily we decided to bring our camera since we hadn't taken any pics for a few days since Darryl has been at work. Our nurse asked me if i wanted a cuddle, of course i wanted to but it was a little scary cos we know Matt doesn't like to be touched so we watched his stats and i got my first cuddle for approx 5 mins. It was amazing and i was so happy to be finally holding our son for the first time. I cant wait till he is older and i can hold him forever but yesterday was a fantastic day.

An Infection

Matt had an xray and they found that he had a lot of gunk on his lungs and thats why he is having a lot of trouble with his stats and they have now taken a sample and he has an infection so they have started antibotics so hopefully it will clear it up. I think all the gunk started when he had a new vent tube installed. He is also back on the puff vent. He seems to be coping ok.

A Matt update

enjoying tummy time

i can see you and trying to suck his fingers

resting like his daddy hand behind his head

It has been 3 weeks today that our little son was born, boy has that time flown by which is good hopefully that means he will be home soon. To be honest the whole pregnancy flew by one minute it felt like i was 12 weeks and going into hospital for my bed rest and stitch and every day crossing off my calender and the next minute i am having this baby at 26 weeks 6days.

So far everything is going ok on this roller coast ride, luckily not many bad days or too many setbacks. The main problem we have is a pda duct which is very common for preemies and is the main problem that we are having and immature lungs which is also common. It means he has been changing ventilators to help him breathe easier he progress to what i call the puff vent. and when he cant cope as well he goes back to the vibrating vent which the call the high frequency. To me the vibrating vent is a step backwards but its gentler to them and then he has to progress back to the puff vent and hopefully to the cpap machine then no machine at all. In the short term my goal is to have Matt progress to the cpap machine.

Matt started on the puff vent then when he had blood in his lungs with the pda duct he went on the vibrating vent and in the 3 weeks since birth he has been on and off between the two. Today he went back onto the vibrating vent which is hard to see cos it is one small step back again but they think he will back on the other one next week. It doesn't help that his pda is playing up and he is on his second round of meds to close it. It effects him and his stats go up and down. I don't remember the technical terms for it but i think it effects the amount of oxygen in his blood that he is getting??? Darryl is the best to describe it but he is at home at the moment last day of work tomorrow which is good.

Overall Matt is doing good and his little character is starting to emerge.

* he likes tummy time, doesn't like being on his back now

*he opens his eyes a lot and responds to my voice

*he is a wriggle worm always moving around and setting off his machines i feel like he is the nosiest baby in bay 8, the alarms go off when he moves his tube or if his stats go up or down i feel like i am always looking at his numbers and praising him when his numbers are good and coaxing him to get his numbers up when they are low. Luckily i like numbers :)

*When he last got weighed which was last Saturday he weighed 879g which is good he is putting on weight and not long now until he reaches the 1kg club

*he doesn't like to be touched just watch those numbers go down, i tell him he better get over this temper tantrum cos when he gets home he wont be able to get away with it. Who am i kiddin he all ready has me wrapped around his little finger.

*he has already outgrown his vent tube and he had another one put in yesterday

*he likes to suck things if he cant get his fingers in his mouth he sucks the tube

*he likes to sleep with his hand behind his head just like his daddy

Matt and tummy time

Dad watching his son enjoy tummy time.

Matt just relaxing we find that he is most happiest when he is on his tummy, the nurses notice a difference when he is on it and when he isnt. They say it is easier for them to breathe when on their tummy.

Matt and Lazy Bones

On Wednesday when we went to visit Matt there was a present on his isolette the nurses had given all the babies left over teddies from christmas. Matt got a little horse called Flicker from the lazy bones series but we are calling the horse lazy bones. It is probably the same size as Matt.
